Mid-Autumn Dreams Fulfilled: Bade Minimum-Security Prison Connects Hearts with Loved Ones
On the evening of the Mid-Autumn Festival, when both the moon and loved ones are united, Bade Minimum-Security Prison, understanding the feelings of inmates longing for their families, collaborated with the Taiwan After-Care Association’s Taoyuan Branch to hold a face-to-face reunion event on September 8th, before the Mid-Autumn Festival. This event allowed inmates, who have found themselves on the wrong side of the law, to reunite with their families, enhancing family bonds and strengthening the support system at home.
On the day of the event, Director Wu Shuxian from the Taoyuan Branch of the Taiwan After-Care Association attended the gathering, promoting their rehabilitation services and expressing care for the inmates. She expressed hope that these individuals could begin anew from within and work towards a brighter future. The prison’s Office of Ethics also provided materials to the inmates and their families, raising awareness about anti-fraud, anti-corruption efforts, rejecting favoritism, and reporting channels for whistleblowing, to enhance their awareness of fraud prevention and integrity.
After the event, an inmate, "Xiao Liang" (a pseudonym), shared his thoughts. He explained that his family struggled financially, and he had a sister with a disability. In school, he was often the target of bullying and ridicule, which led him to feel inferior and resentful. To avoid verbal bullying, he often resorted to violence, becoming a school bully himself. Over time, his mentality worsened, and his relationship with his family deteriorated. After falling in with bad company, he turned to theft and fraud, eventually ending up in prison. He initially believed that he had hurt his family so deeply that they would abandon him. However, his family, bearing no grudges, continued to support him unconditionally, traveling from southern Taiwan every year to attend these reunions. Xiao Liang expressed deep guilt and gratitude for the Mid-Autumn face-to-face reunion event, which allowed him to reconnect with his family. He also made a promise to them: that in the future, he would become a true man, take on the responsibility of caring for his family, and no longer seek excuses to escape his responsibilities.
Warden Huang Hongxi remarked that the journey of companionship and waiting is long, and only those who experience it can truly understand its bittersweetness. Yet, no matter how much an inmate may have strayed, their family will never abandon them, always ready to offer a warm embrace. Home is always open to these wayward children, and family remains their eternal pillar of support. He encouraged all the inmates to repent sincerely and return to their families as soon as possible. A total of 24 inmates and 46 family members participated in this emotional and heartwarming event, which concluded on a touching note.
