Cherish Emotions Group Intervention(Youth Group Intervention for Ages 20-30).

To effectively support young inmates in this prison’s minimum-security unit in managing their emotions before and after home visits—as well as coping with emotional fluctuations and impulsive behaviors triggered by unexpected events while working for external contractors—this prison has launched a group intervention program focused on emotional stability. Through training in positive coping strategies, the program aims to enhance inmates’ emotional self-regulation, thereby reducing the occurrence of disciplinary or security-related incidents.

The program, titled "Cherish Emotions", integrates emotional awareness with creative activities. In this session, participants engaged in a hands-on project—crafting moss coasters—as a medium for emotional expression and self-exploration. By guiding participants through repetitive hand movements and the creative process, the activity helps channel restless emotions, cultivate focus, foster a sense of calm, and restore internal order. Beyond their aesthetic and practical value, the handmade coasters also provide a therapeutic outlet, offering participants a sense of accomplishment and emotional relief.

Throughout the session, facilitators guided inmates to systematically reflect on and articulate their everyday experiences. This process encouraged them to identify the sources of their emotions and examine their connection to personal values, thereby strengthening self-awareness and emotional regulation skills. The group setting employed a non-intrusive, low-pressure approach to reduce psychological defenses and foster a safe, supportive environment that promotes active participation and therapeutic alliance.
