Bade Minimum-Security Prison Holds 2025 Mother's Day Phone Call Reunion Event for Inmates

May is the season of carnations and a time symbolic of motherhood. To provide inmates with an opportunity to express their gratitude and best wishes to their mothers during this heartfelt and meaningful occasion, a “Mother’s Day Phone Call Reunion Event” was held on May 7. Through sincere phone conversations, inmates conveyed their deep emotions and longing to their loved ones. The atmosphere at the event was warm and moving, helping to ease the inmates’ feelings of homesickness.

In the spirit of public service, the Taoyuan Operations Office of Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd. (Northern District Branch) generously provided the prison with 10 telephone lines and handsets, allowing inmates to make free calls. On the day of the phone reunion event, all participating inmates eagerly picked up the receivers to greet their loved ones and convey heartfelt blessings. The venue was filled with a warm and harmonious atmosphere. One inmate, Ah-Guo (alias), spoke with emotion in his voice: “When I was young, I was immature and caused my mother a lot of pain. Being able to say ‘Mom, I love you’ to her in person today means so much to me.”

Warden Huang Hong-Xi stated, “Family is a crucial support system for inmates as they prepare to reintegrate into society. Through this phone reunion event, we hope to help inmates mend emotional rifts with their families and allow familial bonds to become a driving force for their rehabilitation. At the same time, we aim to reduce the risk of recidivism by reestablishing these connections, thereby contributing to a more stable and secure society.”

In addition, to curb fraudulent activities, the prison has arranged cognitive behavioral treatment programs specifically targeting inmates convicted of fraud, aiming to prevent reoffending. During the event, anti-fraud awareness was further promoted through the display of informational posters and the screening of educational videos at the venue. These efforts were intended to enhance all participating inmates’ understanding of anti-fraud information and increase their awareness of related risks.

A total of 138 inmates participated in the event that day, bringing the warmth of family into the otherwise austere prison environment. Through this phone reunion activity, inmates were able to experience the comfort and support of their families, reminding them that loved ones remain their strongest source of strength. The event helped reinforce family bonds and support systems, encouraging inmates to take steady steps toward reintegration into society.
