Bade Minimum-Security Prison Held Its 2025 Mid-Autumn Festival Telephone Reunion Event for Inmates

"May we live long and share the beauty of the moon, even if we are thousands of miles apart." This line expresses the longing of inmates for their families during the Mid-Autumn Festival. To facilitate this, our institution held a telephone reunion event on September 24th, 2025, for the inmates. The goal was to bridge the gap between those isolated from society and their families, allowing them to convey their heartfelt thoughts through communication, thereby strengthening family bonds, enhancing familial support, and igniting the inmates’ determination to turn their lives around and strive for a better future as they move toward the second half of their lives.
We would like to express our special thanks to Chunghwa Telecom Taoyuan Operations for their charitable support, providing 10 phone lines free of charge. This allowed the inmates to use dedicated lines to send endless blessings to their loved ones. The event venue was filled with greetings, love, and care from the inmates to their families, creating a warm and touching atmosphere that made everyone appreciate the value of familial affection even more.
Inmate A-Bang (a pseudonym) shared: "When I was young, I only valued loyalty and didn’t think about family. To protect my brothers, I took on criminal charges. During my sentence, those brothers I helped came to visit me a few times at the beginning, but eventually, they disappeared, and I couldn’t reach them anymore. Only my family kept coming to check on me, hoping I would remember this lesson and live a good life after I get out. I realized that the people who truly cared for me, and the ones I should treat well, were always the closest to me. I didn’t understand before and didn’t cherish it, but luckily, it’s not too late to turn my life around."
The warden, Huang Hong-Xi, commented: "The connection and maintenance of family ties are powerful driving forces for inmates to reform, improve, and reintegrate into society. Through such telephone reunion events, we alleviate the inmates’ homesickness, while also allowing their families to feel the positive changes in them, thus strengthening family bonds. This awakens the inmates’ motivation to change and strive for a new life." A total of 200 inmates participated in the event, which concluded with heartfelt farewells exchanged between the inmates and their loved ones.
