This course aims to guide inmates in developing self-awareness and inner stability through the practice of mindfulness, thereby promoting emotional regulation, interpersonal interaction, and adaptability. Mindfulness emphasizes "being aware of the present moment and accepting oneself." Through systematic practice, it helps participants learn to respond to their environment and interpersonal relationships with a calmer and clearer mindset. From October to December 2015, the prison held eight mindfulness groups titled "Mindful Living: Living with Clarity and Peace in Everyday Life." Occupational therapist Ye Lijun led the groups, helping inmates cultivate self-empathy and empathy for others through mindful communication practices, thereby promoting interpersonal understanding and support.
The course is an experiential learning experience, including meditation, breathing awareness, body scans, mindfulness practice, and interpersonal interaction exercises. Through reflection and discussion, the course guides inmates to internalize their practice experiences into self-awareness, becoming aware of their own physical and mental states and emotional changes, strengthening understanding and tolerance in interpersonal interactions, helping inmates develop a positive attitude towards life, and laying a psychological foundation for social reintegration.
