Christmas Caroling Event
On December 28, 2025, this prison partnered with the New Taipei City Messiah Holistic Care Association to hold the Christmas caroling event titled “Christmas Carols—Let Love Walk.” Through music, hymns, life-sharing testimonies, and blessings, the event conveyed care and concern to incarcerated individuals in a warm festive atmosphere, providing positive social support with the aim of helping them maintain emotional stability and motivation for change during their incarceration.
The Messiah Holistic Care Association has maintained long-term cooperation with this prison, with volunteers entering the facility on a weekly basis to conduct reading groups. These sessions guide incarcerated individuals in reading literary works and Bible passages, fostering self-reflection and expanding inner perspectives through reading and critical discussion. The event program included interactive hymn singing, Christmas carol performances, caroling, life-story sharing, and a blessing ceremony, creating a warm and harmonious festive atmosphere within the prison walls. Participants widely expressed that they felt the warmth of the season and a strong sense of support.
During the event, the association arranged for Mr. Hung, a formerly incarcerated individual, to share his journey of reintegration. Having been repeatedly incarcerated during his youth due to drug-related issues, he gradually rebuilt his self-identity with the companionship of faith and counseling. He is currently studying at a seminary and aspires to give back to society by becoming a pastor. An incarcerated individual from this prison, Mr. Lin, also shared his experiences from participating in the reading groups, noting that reading helped him understand the importance of responsibility, reflection, and restoration. He expressed his hope to face different stages of life and future challenges with a more mature mindset. Wen Min-nan, Chief of the Rehabilitation Division, stated that these cases demonstrate the tangible effectiveness of integrating correctional treatment with community resources. The association’s volunteers, through long-term in-prison companionship and program support, not only provide emotional comfort and spiritual strength but also assist incarcerated individuals in gradually rebuilding self-worth and behavioral goals, affirming that everyone has the potential to rise again.
Warden Huang Hung-hsi noted that civil organizations are essential partners for correctional institutions in advancing rehabilitative efforts. This event not only delivered festive blessings but also inspired incarcerated individuals with confidence and determination to face the future positively. Such initiatives help stabilize institutional order, enhance rehabilitative outcomes, and strengthen preparation for reintegration. Looking ahead, the institution will continue to integrate social resources and implement diversified rehabilitative programs to assist incarcerated individuals in repairing family relationships, developing social adaptation and self-management skills, and laying a solid foundation for returning to society. Upholding the philosophy of rehabilitation and renewal, the institution will continue to collaborate with community resources to promote diverse programs that balance restoration and reintegration, supporting incarcerated individuals in successfully reentering society as responsible citizens and realizing the core objective of correctional treatment: “rehabilitation through guidance and support, enabling people to rise again.”
