Bade-Minimum-Security Prison Organizes the 2026 Lunar New Year Face-to-Face Family Visitation Program for Inmates
As the Lunar New Year of the Horse approaches, in keeping with the spirit of humanitarian care and to ensure that inmates continue to feel the warmth of family affection and social support during the year-end holiday season, Bade-Minimum-Security Prison held a “Lunar New Year Face-to-Face Family Visitation Event” on January 25, 2026 (Sunday). Through warm and meaningful in-person interactions, the event aimed to ease inmates’ long-standing longing for their families, strengthen family support systems, and demonstrate the correctional institution’s people-centered philosophy and emphasis on emotional rehabilitation. It is hoped that, with the companionship and encouragement of loved ones, inmates can stabilize their emotions, rebuild self-identity, and move forward in life with a more positive outlook.
Despite a cold wave and low temperatures on the day of the event, family members participated enthusiastically. A total of 38 inmates and 78 family members attended. The event was held on the second floor of the prison’s visitation building, where order was well maintained and the atmosphere was warm and touching. As family members arrived one after another, inmates, upon seeing their long-missed loved ones, could hardly conceal their anticipation and emotion. Expressions of care, quiet conversations, and gentle reminders filled the venue, reflecting deep and sincere family bonds and providing vital emotional support for inmates during their long-term incarceration.
To enhance the warmth and inclusiveness of the event, the prison specially arranged a dedicated children’s reading and recreation area, featuring a reading corner, picture books, and a safe, child-friendly play space. This allowed accompanying children to play freely and read with peace of mind, easing the burden on families participating in the visitation. Through natural parent-child interactions, the initiative also helped mend family bonds strained by incarceration, filling the venue with an atmosphere of respect, care, and hope.
Inmate A-Ji (pseudonym) shared that seeing his wife make a special trip to visit him despite the cold wave filled him with both deep gratitude and remorse, and helped him further appreciate the enduring support of his family. He candidly admitted that a momentary lapse in judgment in the past had led him astray, placing significant pressure and worry on his loved ones. However, the companionship and heartfelt conversations during this face-to-face visitation prompted him to reflect anew on his life’s direction. He resolved to change himself through concrete actions in the future, in order to repay his family’s trust and patience. This unwavering family bond has become a vital source of strength, motivating him to move forward and strive for personal renewal.
In addition, to enhance family awareness of personal and financial safety, the prison concurrently conducted anti-fraud awareness outreach, reminding inmates and their families to remain vigilant against common fraud schemes and to safeguard their families and property. During the event, Ms. Wu Shu-Hsien, Director of the Taoyuan Branch, Taiwan After-Care Association, briefly introduced social support resources related to rehabilitation assistance, employment services, and living support, helping inmates and their families establish early connections to resources for successful social reintegration. Prior to the conclusion of the event, the prison arranged for the presentation of Spring Festival couplets to inmates’ families. This gesture not only conveyed New Year blessings but also reflected the prison’s commitment to moral education and humanistic care through the appreciation of calligraphy culture. Superintendent Huang Hung-Hsi stated that face-to-face family visitation activities play a vital role in maintaining family bonds and stabilizing inmates’ emotions. Looking ahead, the institution will continue to integrate social resources and promote diverse family support initiatives, accompanying inmates in their gradual growth and transformation and laying a solid foundation for their successful reintegration into society.
