To ease the longing inmates feel for their families during the Lunar New Year—a time traditionally devoted to reunion—and to foster family interaction and support, this facility held the “Lunar New Year Family Phone Call Initiative” on January 21, 2026. Through phone calls, inmates were able to convey New Year greetings and heartfelt messages to their loved ones. These warm conversations allowed them to feel the strength of family support, reinforcing their determination to reform and move forward toward a new beginning in life.

Special thanks are extended to Chunghwa Telecom, Taoyuan Operations Office, which, in the spirit of corporate social responsibility, generously provided ten telephone lines free of charge. This support enabled inmates to connect with their families via dedicated lines, transforming unspoken longing into sincere greetings and blessings. The event was filled with compassion and gentle encouragement, made even more moving by the festive holiday atmosphere, allowing inmates to deeply appreciate and cherish the invaluable bonds of family.

During the event, inmate Xiao-Ping used the opportunity to check on his elderly mother, softly reminding her to take good care of her health while sharing details of his efforts to change, maintain discipline, and lead a structured life while incarcerated. His mother’s warm response and encouragement strengthened his resolve to stand firmly again for his family. Her simple words—“Take good care of yourself. We’ll wait for you to come home”—became a powerful source of motivation for him to keep moving forward. Another inmate, Xiao-An, expressed his gratitude to his wife during the call, acknowledging her unwavering support and her perseverance in shouldering family responsibilities alone throughout his sentence. He shared that the call was more than a greeting; it allowed him to reexamine and reaffirm their relationship and to realize profoundly that family remains one’s strongest pillar of support.

Warden Huang Hung-Hsi noted that the Lunar New Year is a vital time for family reunions and that maintaining family ties has a positive impact on inmates’ rehabilitation and future reintegration into society. Family phone call initiatives not only help alleviate emotional distress caused by separation but also strengthen family connections and reignite motivation for self-improvement.

In addition, anti-fraud awareness videos were shown on site, using real-world cases to enhance inmates’ understanding of common fraud schemes and prevention strategies. A total of 167 inmates participated in the event. Through the telephone lines, the warmth of family affection crossed iron bars, offering comfort on the eve of the Lunar New Year and injecting steady, supportive strength into inmates’ paths toward successful reintegration into society.
